Wuppertal, 13 February 2017. The Schmersal Group is presenting innovative systems and solutions for machine safety at three regional all about automation shows in 2017. To start with, they are heading for Friedrichshafen at Lake Constance where the automation show starts in March. There - as at the subsequent shows in Essen and Leipzig - the company is showcasing safety technology solutions which offer real benefits to the users: increased safety performance, improved flexibility, more productivity and cost-effectiveness.
New: the smallest safety light barrier in the world
The latest addition to the Schmersal Group range is the smallest safety light barrier in the world with built-in evaluation. The new SLB 240/440/450 series safety light barriers can easily be built into very confined spaces and fitted quickly and easily. They can be used for a wide range of applications in processing centres for assembly/handing and in the wood, paper and printing industry, high-shelf warehouses or packaging machines. The SLB 450 model is also fitted with optional built-in heating can can be used at very low temperatures (down to -30°C), for example, for outdoor applications in the timber or cement industry, in gravel pits or in docks.
RFID-based safety components
At all about automation, Schmersal is also showcasing RFID-based safety sensors and solenoid interlocks which offer improved tamper protection. For example, the AZM 300 and AZM 400 solenoid interlock have built in RFID technology so achieve a coding level of “high”, thus guaranteeing high levels of tamper protection in accordance with ISO 14119. The AZM 300 can be used on a flexible basis and has a hygiene-compliant design so is very often used in the food and packaging industry. The AZM 400 has a very high 10,000 Newton interlocking force, making it perfect for large safety doors.
Safety relay modules are a space-saving, cost-effective technology for the evaluation of safety signals. At all about automation, Schmersal is presenting its TÜV-certified PROTECT SRB-E series, which covers a wide range of applications with just eight basic models. Each module is easy to configure for up to eleven different applications.
The PROTECT PSC1 programmable safety controller is also flexible to adapt to the application, as it offers the option of configuring individual safety systems using software. A further advantageous characteristic is the modular design of the control technology. The machine manufacturer can expand the PSC1 system using various modules, e.g. with additional inputs and outputs, universal fieldbus interface, safe cross-communication and safe drive monitoring
As a system and solution provider, Schmersal also supports users with services from its tec.nicum division. In the face of the different safety technology options, qualified safety engineers from tec.nicum can advise on the best way of utilising these options. Schmersal will also be providing information about this at all about automation 2017 in Friedrichshafen.
